Product Detail
EMG has joined forces with the legendary Geezer Butler to create the GZR-P and GZR-PJ signature bass pickup sets. This Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bass player began working with EMG founder Rob Turner in 2011, aiming to recreate the classic bass tones from Black Sabbath's early days. In 2013, as Geezer and Black Sabbath transitioned from studio work to touring, the key to achieving that classic Geezer tone was in place - a passive pickup with a truly vintage feel. To capture Geezer's early Black Sabbath sound, EMG designed a new vintage-style passive P & PJ set with modern touches. The all-solderless P set uses Alnico V pole pieces and custom wound coils for the perfect punch and grit. The J in the PJ set also uses Alnico 5 poles and has two custom wound split-coils. This gets rid of the noise and hum typical of 70s bass pickups and offers more power and volume than standard single coil J pickups, creating a great balance between the P and the J. The result is the distinct early Geezer Butler bass tone with deep, tight low end, just like in hits like 'Iron Man', 'War Pigs', and 'Paranoid' from the 70s. As Geezer Butler said, 'I never felt comfortable giving my name to any other pickups, but this time these have blown me away.' PLU: GZRPJ
Using these EMG Geezer Butler signature bass pickup sets is easy. First, install them on your bass following the included instructions. Make sure to connect the wires properly. When using, adjust the volume and tone controls on your bass to get the sound you want. You can experiment with different settings to create unique tones. For maintenance, keep the pickups clean. Use a soft cloth to wipe them down occasionally. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures or moisture. If you notice any issues, like strange noises or a change in sound quality, check the connections first. If the problem persists, it might be a good idea to consult a professional bass technician.
